Graduate geotechnical/geoenvironmental engineer/field technicians

Due to increasing workload RSA Geotechnics have an opportunity in our team for a graduate geotechnical/geoenvironmental engineer/field technician. The post will be predominantly based at our office in Needham Market in Suffolk, although the role will include a significant amount of site work. The majority of our sites are within two hours travel of our offices.

The role will involve dynamic drilling and sampling using a compact rubber-tracked percussive window sampling rig and other methods, on-site logging of soils to BS5930, the installation and monitoring of groundwater and ground gas monitoring wells, and in-situ testing. Investigation via hand augering and hand-excavation is also sometimes required.

The purpose of such investigative works is to establish ground conditions to inform development proposals, particularly with respect to the design and assessment of foundations and land contamination.

Depending on qualifications and ability the role may be a route to progression within the engineering department in a geotechnical/geoenvironmental engineer capacity. In this role requirements include excellent written English skills and ideally a degree in geology, civil engineering, engineering geology, environmental sciences or mining/mineral engineering or HNC/HND in a related subject.

We welcome applications from potential technicians as well as potential engineers. Training will be provided.

Applicants need to be physically fit, keen to learn, self-motivated and flexible, with good practical and problem-solving skills and able to work as part of a team. They must have a full, clean driving licence.

Candidate would ideally live within 30 miles commute of Needham Market, for logistical reasons.

The posts are full time and permanent, subject to satisfactory completion of a 3-month trial period. The standard hours of work are 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, although some early starts and longer hours will be necessary as required. Annual holiday entitlement is twenty-five days per year. Salary would depend upon relevant qualifications and experience; for a trainee fieldwork technician/graduate with no significant experience the starting salary would be in the order of £18000 to £20000+ per annum.

The company offers, after successful completion of the trial period, 5% employer company pension contribution, permanent health insurance and life assurance.

Applicants who are selected for interview will be contacted by e-mail. Applicants who have not been selected for interview will not be contacted.
