Fieldwork Technician

RSA Geotechnics has a vacancy for a fieldwork technician. The post will include performing a variety of site investigation techniques including percussive window sampling, in-situ testing, and ground gas monitoring. The position involves working outdoors all year round. Overtime will be required as workload dictates.

Previous fieldwork experience would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be given. Applicants need to be physically fit, keen to learn, self-motivated, with good practical skills and able to work as part of a team. They must have a full driving licence (LGV entitlement an advantage). Candidates would ideally live within a reasonable commute of Needham Market for logistical reasons.

The company offers, after successful completion of a three-month trial period, 5% employer company pension contribution, permanent health insurance and life assurance. Overtime (paid at 1.5 times hourly rate).

The salary is from £21,250.00 per year (significantly more for experienced applicants).

Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineer

RSA Geotechnics have a vacancy for an experienced geotechnical/geoenvironmental engineer. Ideally the candidate will have two to five years’ experience. The post will be based at our offices in Needham Market, Suffolk, although travelling to sites located throughout the UK will be required.

Candidates must be motivated and flexible with good team working, communication, analytical, organisation and problem-solving skills. Up-to-date IT skills are essential. Daily tasks involve:

– Planning, organising, and supervising intrusive investigations.
– Undertaking fieldwork.
– Collecting, analysing, and interpreting data.
– Preparing factual and interpretative reports.
– Ensuring projects keep to budget and timescale.
– Liaison with clients, consultants, and contractors.
– Utilising specialist computer applications.

Key skills include:

– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
– Ability to work alone and in a team environment.
– Ability to carry out tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies.
– Strong attention to detail, discipline, care, and focus.
– Experience of soil and rock logging to current standards.
– Excellent report writing skills.
– Project management and organisational skills.
– BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in geology, civil engineering or related fields, although other qualifications will be considered.

Candidates should ideally demonstrate experience in several of the following areas:

– Desk study preparation.
– Human health risk assessment.
– Waste classification.
– Groundwater risk assessment.
– Ground gas risk assessment.
– Ground investigation.
– Foundation assessment.
– Factual and interpretative report preparation.

Successful candidates will be expected to undertake and manage ground investigation and contaminated land projects within the geotechnical and geo-environmental division and will be expected to make a significant contribution to the report writing capability of the department. The role includes both office-based and site-based activities and consequently a UK driving licence will be required. Car allowance may be included depending on the level of experience.
