Jetty Repair, Canvey Island, Essex

Oikos’ bulk liquid storage terminal on Canvey Island is a strategic part of the United Kingdom’s infrastructure for fuel distribution. Oikos have operated on Canvey Island for over 70 years and, under new ownership, the terminal is currently undergoing major redevelopment. As part of this work an ageing jetty needed to be upgraded.

Medical Centre, East Cowes, Isle of Wight

A new medical centre has opened in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight as part of the town’s regeneration scheme. The centre is located at Church Path near the recently completed Town Square and replaces the existing surgery located in York Road.

Jacks Lane Wind Farm, Stanhoe, Norfolk

RSA Geotechnics was requested by Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Limited to carry out inspections of the formation level of the turbine foundation excavations at the Jack’s Lane Wind Farm site. Six turbines (T1 to T6) were planned at the site and construction of the turbine foundations took place during the summer of 2014.

Goddard Road Salt Barn, Ipswich, Suffolk

Suffolk County Council was keen to relocate from their existing highway depot at Great Blakenham and needed to increase their salt stock piles. Having purchased land on the Whitehouse Industrial Estate in Ipswich the local authority set about procuring a new salt barn as part of a £3.5m redevelopment of the site.

Fulbourn hospital

RSA Geotechnics were involved in a geotechnical site investigation at the site of a proposed development for Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge, to establish whether any solution features existed beneath the site. The site was underlain by Zig Zag Chalk and the client was concerned that there may be solution features beneath the site.

Embankment Monitoring: A130, Essex

RSA Geotechnics were requested to carry out monitoring of a failed embankment side slope on the A130 in Essex. The slip occurred on the northbound side of the road to the north of Monument Bridge. Monument Bridge carries the A130 over the railway line that runs between Southend Victoria Station and London.

Desiccation Assessment: North London

RSA Geotechnics were recently instructed to undertake a ground investigation at a site in north London that had encountered severe surface cracking during an exceptionally dry summer. The investigation area was located behind a wooden retaining wall on a sloped embankment. Cracks up to 100mm wide had opened up along the bank affecting the gardens of six newly constructed residential homes.
